not a good day

Postby Waxman » Sat Dec 27, 2014 8:00 am

Bad news, My mobo will not accept the 970 without a bios update and even worse it will not update at all. Had to switch to second bios to get it to post.

So looks like I have to store my 970 till I get my x99

Annnd with this latest failure, I have come to the realization. I CAN"T BUILD PC's anymore. I just have not got the muscle control anymore. It pains me greatly to say that, but it is the cold hard truth.

Hey Waxman, I came to that same horror a few years back. Building PC's, just too darn hard on the body. Sigh.

Ouch on both counts!

Today I'm trying to get my system to take a 980 card - I hope I don't run into the same problem. That would suck.

Well, yesterday I got the card in the pci slot just fine, the screws, no, and those are the big thumbscrews. Trying to remain calm while holding hundreds of dollar equipment in your hands that's fragile, while at the same time dropping the thumb screw a thousand times. That is the new definition of Insane. Sort of the same as the old, doing the same thing expecting a different result.

Oh and my 970 8 pin had its PCI power plug upside down from my 680 two 6 pin
but I had the Strix and that was a pain in itself. My cable sleeving made the cables so stiff. I had to undo a lot of my cable management.

And now my card is jury rigged because I couldn't get the screws in. But as I am online. it does work.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Congratz!

Just a tip for when you change over to X99: Avoid the Gigabyte UD motherboards. They are more trouble than it is worth. The Bios is crap and the quality of the board is even worse.

The MSI and Asus boards are great though.

That's great advice

And on another note the card works, the Digital audio is FUBAR for some weird reason, but I'm not using that anyways. Just put it in this morning and the card booted right up
