So What Assets Are You Working With?

Postby Kagey » Sat Feb 01, 2014 1:50 am

Unofficial, just a thumbnail sketch for what your working with, and why you have them... ;)

I have the following ships and the reasons I purchased them...

BIRC Merchantman - Solid Bulk Cargo - 60 Tonnes
MISC Starfarer - Gas Bulk Cargo - 75 Tonnes
Origin M50 - Information Runner (May replace with Drake Herald) - 3 Tonnes

RSI Constellation - Escort - Solid Bulk Cargo - 35 Tonnes
Aegis Avenger - Escort - Solid Bulk Cargo - 10 Tonnes
Anvil Hornet F7C-M - Escort

(I like big boats and I can not lie - You other brothers can't deny...)

My reasoning was, in the beginning, the use the Starfarer as the cash cow, putting her on a gas giant, and sucking up the sweet hydrogen, to transfer to a Refinery to get the Go Juice(tm), saving up to add the "On Ship Refinery" to skip the middle man. Fueling my modest fleet, and selling the excess.

The Origin M50; I initially purchased it as an Information Runner. I'd load those upgrade slots up with stealth packages and get Data from Point A to Point B in the fastest time. Oddly enough, I did not buy it for Racing, as the Freelancer Racing Mission explained, quite graphically, how much I suck at it. Now CIG has announced the Drake Herald as an Information Runner, so I may swap the M50 for the Herold. (who am I kidding? I'll add it to my Fleet)

The BIRC Merchantman was to be my Solid Cargo hauler, plain and simple.

The RSI Constellation was my Gateway Drug for SCAA. Looked like the most versatile Ship, and as I was only going to purchase one ship, this was going to be it. (Yeah, we see how that logic worked out...) Since then, I am thinking Multipurpose. Escort, Cargo, Exploration, Whatever...

Aegis Avenger: Escort, Light Cargo Hauling. (The Real Reason is the PBR Demo... I mean, Come On!!!)

Anvil Hornet F7C-M (Super Hornet) is for pure Escort. Problem is, I am not a Twitch dog fighter. I would prefer to stand toe-to-toe and slug it out, but I figure a lot of guns, and a little agility, and we'll see how it goes.

We've got a few of them floating around but I figured I'd let you know that there's an Idris and Starfarer up for loan to you guys any time they're not being used to support our scouting efforts, should haul a fair bit of stuff.

Thank you jaustin89! I can see a great need for many Starfarers to keep the Queen fueled, and an Idris goes with everything, and never goes out of style!

I plan on making exploration my primary activity, but cargo will also be a big part of the game for me so here's my ships (so far, of course):

Freelancer - for cargo and exploration
Constellation - for ... the blue-print in the package really. But it's a generally versatile ship for cargo.
Starfarer - for bulk gas cargo
Aurora MR - maybe useful for some light and fast. cargo
315p - purely exploration oriented.
Avenger - My only combat oriented ship. It could certainly do escort duty.

Like you, I'm not much of a twitch flyer. In fact, if the engines on the Freelancer rotate 180 degree they way it's been described then I hope to be able to turn then around completely and fly backwards so that I can bring the big guns to bear while getting away from any pursuers. That should be a neat trick if the game will let me do it.

EDIT - Feb 23, added Starfarer

I've always enjoyed the trading parts of games, so I've not touched a ship that can't haul at least a little cargo. However, got to have flexibility as who knows what we're all going to find most fun in-game. So my fleet is:

Aurora LX: to learn the game and earn a little credit before moving onto the bigger stuff.

Cutlass: search and rescue, light salvage and small cargo runs. It'll also be the ship I'd use if I wanted to dogfight as it should be very maneuverable. If I want to trade more exotic goods it'll probably be easier to get into places like Spider in one of these.

Freelancer: I imagine I'll end up using this most ingame owing to the low crew requirements and large cargo capacity. Well armoured and well armed, should have reasonable survivability in tougher systems.

Retaliator: it's got a large cargo hold, very strong armour and a huge number of weapons hardpoints. I'm going to use it for blockade running and high value cargos.

Also interested in (when they are released):
Herald: like the stealth and speed implied.

Aegis Surveyor: really interested to see how the salvage mechanic works, but equally sounds like a tough ship that would make a flexible trader. In the same way that a Starfarer could harvest fuel, this could potentially be quite self-sufficient. Assuming there's enough debris scattered through the verse.

Only own an Aurora LN atm
But will be getting a Freelancer or Carrack next as I want to explore most of the time
The LN for light escort maybe and it has been suggested to me it may be able to be utilized in scouting and light stealth missions
But that said I want to explore

The Legionnaire looks to be a pretty tough little ship, so I bet it'll be pretty good for a range of things from combat to exploration to shipping.

Aurora LN w/ 10t cargo pod.
Tough enough to defend itself and others and make a modest profit.

I like to earn my rewards and am primarily a trader.

Kordis, I see in your post you have a Starfarer, and Merchantman. I'm new to SC and was wondering how did you acquire those ships as I'm interested in those ships also for my fleet. I currently don't see them for sell under pledging. Please tell me there not part of a $500.00 plus pledge package. Thanks for any help.
