I'd just hang on to the Constellation if you have LTI on it, although I am a Freelancer fan, and will likely start the PU in my Freelancer DUR.

the disk/cd/usb stick you are booting to still has to contain bootcode and enough executeable code to run a minimum system and file system

And yes, you will need a license key if doing a fresh install to a reformatted disk.
